To take advantage of the shared journey fares, passengers should book their journey at the same time and get on or off together at the same place.

Billingshurst Community Transport

This social car scheme, with around 30 drivers using their own cars, commenced undertaking journeys in August 2003. In addition to these volunteer drivers, the Scheme also has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

In the first twelve months, the Scheme registered almost 250 passengers, undertook over 2000 journeys, and travelled 16,000 miles at about £1 per mile. Generous funding means that the Scheme can charge passengers at the rate of 40p per mile, for the time that the passenger is in the car. Drivers are paid 30p per mile for all miles driven.

The service is intended for those who are elderly, frail or disabled and unable to use public transport.

To use the Service contact Lynne Murray, Project Manager on 01403 787636, Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 11am

For information on how to become a volunteer driver for the Scheme, please contact the above number
