The community working together for safety

Neighbourhood Watch is about people working together to make their communities safer and friendlier places to live and work. The aim of Neighbourhood Watch is to help people protect themselves and their properties, reduce the fear of crime and improve their local environment.

Neighbourhood Watch schemes maintain close links with local police and co-ordinators receive regular reports by e-mail or recorded telephone calls on issues of interest from the Neighbourhood Watch office at Chichester police station. A regular newsletter is also circulated to all co-ordinators containing crime prevention advice and matters of more general interest.

The Neighbourhood Watch administrator at Chichester is Phil Marten who can be contacted on 0845 60 70 999 or on direct dial 01243 520347. He is happy to discuss any aspect of Neighbourhood Watch.

Local Schemes

Neighbourhood Watch schemes exist in both Plaistow and Ifold. Ifold has some 288 homes included in schemes run by local people with Tom Laidlaw (01403 753640) as area coordinator.

Plaistow has several schemes but unfortunately has been without an area coordinator for some time, however the role has recently been taken up by Angela Jeffrey (01403 871112). Angela is keen to reinvigorate Neighbourhood Watch in Plaistow by adding to the number of people involved and homes covered. Anyone with an interest in helping to maintain Plaistow as a safe and peaceful place is urged to speak to Angela or contact Phil Marten at Chichester police station (details above) to find out more.
