The Ifold History Society

The Ifold History Society was founded in June 1984 by a group of residents interested in researching the origins of the Ifold Estate before and after the 2nd World War.

Gradually over the years a large collection of photographs and memorabilia, including those of Plaistow and Shillinglee were gathered. These have been exhibited at various venues together with artefacts from the 1920's and 30's, World War II and the 1950's. To date, 2 books have been published by members: "Ifold, Loxwood and Plaistow" by Connie Bayley (1988) and "Kirdford - The Old Parish Discovered" by Janet Austin (1990) plus an illustrated map celebrating the Millennium. Both the Kirdford book and the map are still available.

The Society organises talks and outings to places of historical and local interest. Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday in the month mostly at members houses.

Parish Maps in full-colour book available now

75 West Sussex Parish maps, including Plaistow, are reproduced in full colour in a 320 page book titled "A Sense of Place", each map having an accompanying text discussing the Parish in detail. The Parish Maps project has been a community effort involving many people in 100 parishes and is the brainchild of Kim Leslie of the West Sussex Records Office.

The book, which normally retails at $35 is being offered at £18 from the Ifold Local History Society
