When the Parish Council heard of the recommendations in Chichester District Council's Local Development Framework (LDF) Core Strategy document, an Open Meeting was immediately arranged.
The Core Strategy provided that, as from 8th May 2006, the Settlement Policy Area (SPA) would be lifted from Ifold, meaning that there would be no more development there, apart from like for like or affordable housing.
Plaistow would now become a Built Up Area (BUA), with the centre of the village remaining a Conservation Area. Further it had been identified that a minimum of ten affordable homes and a further ten homes on greenfield sites should be provided in Plaistow.
The Open Meeting was held on 31st May 2006 and 93 residents attended from Ifold, Plaistow and a strong contingent from Shillinglee. Every effort was made to arrange for a speaker from the District Council's LDF Team or Planning Department but, most unfortunately, no-one was available.
The meeting enabled residents to be given the latest information available to the Parish Council and to express their opinions. These views helped the Parish Council to formulate its response to the Core Strategy document.
The Parish Council's response was that the Council wished to see the current situation remain viz. Ifold without an SPA and Plaistow, as proposed, with a Built Up Area.
The Parish Council also responded that to minimise unnecessary challenge and impact to the environment and the existing infrastructure, we would propose changing the minimum level of affordable housing units to five and the maximum to ten, to allow for flexibility.
The Inspector's decision following the Examination in Public is expected towards the end of the year.
